Mossy Creek is a lovely meadow stream flowing through Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley near Harrisonburg. Much has been written concerning Mossy and a search of the internet will find a ton of information regarding the Creek and the trout fishing opportunities it affords.

I opened a fly shop near Mossy Creek in the early '90’s. The business hours that I set allowed me to fish practically every day during prime time. After selling my shop I concentrated on guiding and instructing fly fishers on Mossy Creek and other nearby waters. I am not an “expert”…I’m just a guy who loves to trout fish and I have been at it for 60 years. I no longer guide locally…I’ve grown much too ornery in my old age.
Flies for Mossy Creek:
I am still tying and offering my patterns for sale. And just as a blind pig will find an acorn if he roots around long enough; I have found or developed a number of killer patterns after fishing and observing Mossy for more than 20 years.
My signature pattern, the Golden Retriever is now being sold by the Orvis Company and may be purchased here, at the Orvis website (read the reviews) or at any of more than 500 fine Orvis shops across the country. It is a super effective fly for trout and smallmouths.
